Introduction

Intro

Powerday is a leader of resource recovery and recycling with over 40 years’ experience within the waste industry. Our multiple Material Recovery Facilities employ state-of-the-art machinery to ensure that all waste is effectively recovered and diverted from landfill. We hold a range of accreditations for our operations, fleet and industry standards and we were the first waste management company in England to achieve PAS402.

Operational Area

Powerday have three main Material Recovery Facilities covering the majority of Greater London. The main site at Old Oak Sidings in Willesden North West London is a purpose built 9-acre facility operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The plant is licensed to receive and process up to 1.6 million tonnes per annum. Along with this, in 2015 we completed a £10 million redevelopment of our site in Enfield that has the ability to process up to 330,000 tonnes per annum. In addition to these two recycling facilities we operate a transfer station in Brixton, South West London. The waste tipped at this site is transferred to be processed at our Old Oak Sidings site ensuring that 100% of the waste is recovered. The operation of these sites and our data capture protocols have enabled us to deliver the standards set out in PAS402.

Compliance

As Powerday are leaders within the waste management sector, we are aware of the importance of compliance within the industry. We ensure that Our operations are FORS Gold compliant, we also hold CLOCS Champion status, and are member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, (CILT). In addition to this, we hold ISO14001 for environmental management, quality management ISO9001 and health & safety OHSAS18001. As a company we aim for excellence within the waste industry and our accreditations demonstrate that to our clients.

Staying Ahead

Powerday are very proud to have become the first waste company in England to achieve the PAS402 standard, allowing companies to understand what is happening to their waste and to increase recycling rates and importantly to have these performance reports externally verified. Powerday were introduced to the PAS by an existing client and as we strive to work together with our customers in producing effective waste management, we saw the huge benefits of this scheme. An external audit by independent UKAS accredited Green Compass auditors was undertaken on Powerday’s existing reporting method and data capture and based upon this we were awarded the PAS402 Standard in 2015. This has further been renewed twice and we have become leaders in the promotion of this to Build UK (formerly UKCG), who represents many of the largest UK construction contractors. Due to the success of this, Build UK are now pushing for the standard to be adopted by waste companies all through England to improve waste practises and increase recycling.

Regarding PAS402, Powerday Sales and Marketing Director, Simon Little says: “When we present data to our clients as well as understanding the extent of our operations they also need to know that the data generated is accurate and importantly satisfies their own internal audit protocols. We recognised very early on that PAS 402 helps to ensure this so we welcome the adoption of PAS402 by the UK construction industry”.
